Natalie's Picks: Elevated Basics & Sustainable Style
Posted on April 06 2020
When it comes to personal style, I’m all about combining practical and comfortable basics with smart and fashionable accent styles. It makes me feel good, while allowing me to express my personal style. Here are a few point that I keep in mind when looking to transition my spring wardrobe:
Just Good Basics – A fantastic pair of dark wash skinny jeans, a classic white Oxford shirt, smart and comfortable sneakers, or a flattering black jumpsuit can all go a long way in building a classic wardrobe. These are good places to invest in quality pieces because they are worn so frequently in our day to day and, for the most part, these styles can transition easily from work to play!
More denim please – For spring, I love to introduce one or two seasonal styles to my wardrobe, depending of what new trends I gravitate to. This spring, I’m loving the cropped straight leg in a lighter wash like off-white or light blue, as well as a cropped skinny in black for a fresh take on the classic year-round style!
Weather Appropriate – Our Maritime weather is always keeping us guessing, so I like to give myself lots of practical options when dressing for Spring, with raincoats and rain boots both among my top practical essentials for the season. I love our Lemon Jellys’ rain “booties” as they are lighter and less bulky that the traditional rain boots and are perfect for running around the city. Also, I’m all about layering with a lightweight vest & will often pair mine under a raincoat or trench for a little extra insulation in the early spring.
But always, keep it fashion – Having a few, easy to wear fashion items are a great way to elevate your wardrobe, while expressing your personal style! I love pairing a cool statement coat (like our Periphery walking jacket) over jeans and a tee, as it’s an effortless way to make even the most basic look a little more edgy. Also, I am a bit fan of a matching set! Although it is a strong look, it always looks smart and put together and because of the nature of the look, these styles can be easily dressed up or down with different shoes and accessories. These styles are often versatile enough to be worn as stand-along pieces too, paired with your favourite jeans or fitted tank for a totally different look!
