Sustainablilty Practices

Since 2005 VEJA has used Brazilian and Peruvian organic cotton for the canvas and laces, Amazonian rubber for the soles, and various innovative materials made from recycled plastic bottles or recycled polyester.

VEJA sneakers are produced in high-standard factories in Brazil and Portugal.

Fair Trade

Since 2004, VEJA has been using fair trade practices. This means they deal directly with producers, cutting out middlemen. They pay upfront for harvests, often up to 50%. This means they buy raw materials a year in advance of making sneakers.

At the beginning of the year, they establish the price by signing a two-year contract with producer families. This way, producers know their earnings from the harvest before planting. The price ensures that producers can live well and reinvest in their farms.

Protecting the Environment

VEJA is continuously analyzing the chemical safety of our sneakers to ensure that they do not contain toxic or polluting elements. As of October 2021, our material suppliers must submit a test report specifying that their products do not contain the most commonly used hazardous chemicals in the fashion industry.

B Corp. Certified

B Corp certification assesses VEJA's global impact through a questionnaire covering wages, suppliers, team, environment, workplace, and governance.

Initiated in 2017, they were B Corp certified in December 2018. B Corp will help VEJA navigate how to innovate everyday and protect their employees and the environment.
